Speculative direction · concept study only. Current BioEchem zones are field-a (outdoor) and greenhouse-1 (controlled environment). Cold-chain is a forward-looking application area, not on the active 2026 roadmap, and not commercially available. Page kept as a partnership conversation piece.

A cold-chain witness that travels with the package.

If the same biological sensor that proves a flood event in a greenhouse can be sealed into a shipping carton, the receiver gets a signed event log of the package's journey — temperature excursions, thaw events, jolt, light. Receivers verify with a phone scan, no proprietary scanner. This is a future direction, not a shipping product — but the underlying signature chain, the power envelope, and the partner verifier are real today.

How a Cold-Chain Witness rides with a shipment

One sensor, one biological tag, one signed event log per package.

1 Tag attaches to package The biological monitoring tag is placed inside the insulated carton alongside the cargo. The tag is small, low-power, and assembled from BioEchem's cell preparation and EpochCore's device-record firmware.
2 Tag records the journey The biological cell powers the transitional sensor at ≤3 mW. Threshold events — temperature excursion, thaw, jolt, light exposure — are timestamped and stored locally on the tag's MCU. At each connectivity checkpoint (warehouse scan, vehicle dock, receiver bay) the journey is uploaded to the EpochCore software layer. This is a checkpoint-sync model, not a live-streaming model — it is what the power envelope actually supports, and it is what 21 CFR 11-grade audit logs already expect.
3 Receiver verifies on arrival A phone scan of the tag returns a signed event log — every reading, every excursion, every threshold breach. If the tag is missing, tampered with, or its biological cell is dead, the receiver sees that immediately.

What the receiver gets

Every Cold-Chain Witness shipment ends with a verifiable proof bundle, not a vendor's word.

Hardware envelopeWhat the tag actually is

Power: 3 V at 1 mA or lower — ≤3 mW class. Biological cell drives the transitional sensor; the MCU is on its own power.

Materials: no rare materials. Supply-chain clean, ESG-aligned out of the box.

Sync model: events stored locally on the MCU; uploaded at each connectivity checkpoint along the route — not a live BLE beacon. This is what the power envelope supports and what pharma + recall workflows actually consume.

Who buys the witness

High-value or regulated shipments where "we tracked it" is not enough.

Pharmaceutical cold chainVaccines, biologics, gene-therapy reagents, clinical-trial samples. Receivers need 21 CFR 11-grade audit logs and tamper-evident custody.
Blood and tissue logisticsHospital and lab transport of blood units, transplant tissue, frozen specimens. Every excursion is patient-impacting.
Frozen-food and groceryPremium frozen logistics where retailers and insurers want independently-verified cold-chain custody per pallet or per case.
Fine art and luxuryClimate-controlled art transport, premium wine, museum loans. Provenance + condition reporting in one signed bundle.
